chatter sing for absolution

((TimeBandit WEIRDNESS)) Jen from TBTL was in Spokane Thursday. Which means… interestingly, we passed on I-90. Weird, and interesting, and small worldly.

How to start, is it like a school report, ‘What I did on my summer vacation’ or perhaps just jump on it. I am sometimes a jumper. Especially when I am writing it out. As I am doing now.

I decided that I needed a journey, movement. Generally this is born with me driving somewhere. Because I could walk somewhere but that means
                      1. I would actually be walking ergo exercising which is meh.
                      2. I am all sorts ‘americana’ and as such I love my car and love driving.
                      3. Length of distance versus time. I don’t think I will be spending a week to walk 263 miles one way. Until such time as there is a catastrophic event in which case the world becomes Mad Max -ian and we have to walk. (and battle zombies).

So I pondered my journey, over the course of 30 seconds. It was easy. North – nope. Parental guilt issues. South – naw, I was just in Portland at the beginning of the summer. West – I didn’t feel like running across mad packs of tweens in their quest for Twilight characters. East – huh… interesting. Been a while since I’ve been over there, and BONUS! A special nummy treat at the mid point of the journey. So. Decision made, I headed east, destination Spokane. Though, this was really all about the journey.

“Home is beautiful, and Spokane is where things go to die”  Which sounds SO much meaner than I mean it to. It’s just that once you drive over the Cascade Mountains and you see all the trees suddenly gone, and the road gets flat and dry and… well, dead. It really feels like you are in a totally different state, possibly even country. It just feels different. Not bad, just different.  I, being me, and having been grown up in Western Washington and the greater Silicon Valley area in California. So I know the different realities of trees and green in contrast with flat and brown. And I know what feels right inside my guts. That would be Western Washington. God’s country. *smirk*

After working half day on Wednesday, and getting the NEW HD Comcast Cable installed (sweet jesus it is awesome!!!) I headed out, jumping on I-90 East and just going. If you are someone who also feels the need to take a journey every once and awhile, like me, then you understand ‘just going’. The drive was… long… and cathartic. And then I was BAM in the middle of Spokane.

Spokane is interesting. It was once a massive city, then it deteriorated, and now it seems to be coming back. A urban revival if you will. Still cleaning off the past, but working forward. And I noticed that it is pretty snazzy feeling, and I love the old buildings. I also noticed a HUGE amount of college aged young people. Expanding slightly to add a lot of WHTE college aged young people. (aka posers, ponces, douchers, etal) Interesting. I always get nervous when there are a large group of any one peoples. It’s a me thing. OMG. Funny little snippet. At my fun little hotel I was staying at, they had a sign “Welcome Ministries of the Light.LMAO.I was staying there with a massive group of very religious people (I so thought about finding some loud girl to bring back to my room to have loud inappropriate lesbian sex with… but then I thought more about it, and me being me, that’s just not what I do… any more. lol) who always walked around in groups of three. Which, weird. And also weird, I could only think about that religious wacko group from TruBlood. So hilarious. To me.

I did have a good night in Spokanistan, got to see Bee Simonds playing at Zola, with Canadian Radio. Now. I am sorry but I have to say this. The service at Zola SUCKS if you aren’t a big tittie college girl, UNTIL after you tip them well. Then they are great! As in they are very attentive. Though by the time they were attentive, I as drunk as a skunk and didn’t need more than a soda. Also there was a deep learning curve, that bars in college towns get INSAENLY packed with people, as in 4 deep to the bar, for… an HOUR. Then it clears out, as they all get back to their dorm before lights out. Something like that. Sounds bitchy. It happens. The show was a good one, and nice and long. I got my thrill and fill of seeing Bee performing, along with her new set of ‘boys’. We all know I adore Bee, and her voice puts me in this emotional place that I like being every once and awhile. Plus I’ve had a bear sized crush on her for years (she knows it and so do I) it’s harmless. Move on. I have.

Waking up on Thursday morning in my hotel room, and looking out the window, and seeing the older buildings looking dusty and the homeless guy walking down the alley… Spokane sort of felt like… like a strange twisted rabbit hole from which some people have never returned.
…But that could have been my hangover.

I got back home Thursday afternoon. And over the journey, the just going, I learned a lot about myself. And learned that road trips that go longer than 3 hours I get a little antsy. (the drive was 4 hours each way) This is either a sign of the coming Apocalypse or I am just getting old(er).  *apocalypse because I used to be the driving girl. I drove from CA to Seattle for a coffee once. Okay Okay, it was to have coffee with a girl. ;p… there has been a whole lot of me driving long distances for girls…. and I did see a girl in Spokane… oh dear. But but! oh well. I am consistent.

What did I learn? That life is good, and I am good, and a whole slew of other really deep things that I don’t feel like sharing right now. What I can share with you, is that my Zune is awesome! It is like smart, or is connected to the greater universe. Let me explain. I set up a playlist, a play list that is 16hr 16 min; which did not happen on purpose!! So I started the play list on a specific song, and then I had it on random, but it began to connect song after song in some amazing, touched by the hand of god, sort of way. It really made it an emotional and cathartic journey. Which is what the whole point of the trip was. A journey.

here’s a sampling of some of the 234 songs:

200.8 – bee simonds
1693 – new order

beloved – vnv nation
black hole – she & him
the mercy seat – nick cave
more – the sisters of mercy
most of me – mandy moore
murderous – nitzer ebb
my eyes – dr. horrible
no ordinary love – deftones
no one knows i’m gone – scarlett johansson

…and that is just a random sampling. You wish you were in the car with me for the drive. Admit it.

My End of Summer trip was needed, and it was good, and I am glad I went. I saw the world through clearer eyes, and while I am tired as hell today, it was worth it. And the world is a good place.

If you know me, then you KNOW what today’s blog post is about…

I mean. C’mon! Dollhouse season premier, TONIGHT! Fox, 9pm. While I will be watching it at a shindig, almost a hootenanny. And DVR’ing. And you should too. And yes. You need to watch it. Because it is Eliza, because it is Joss, because Jaime will be on it (Apollo!) Seriously. What is more important tonight? Oh. that’s right. Nothing. So get thee to a TV and watch Dollhouse. And if you don’t have a TV, call me. We have a massive HD big screen now. It will be awesome. *girlie squeeee*

To get you excited:

In other news, (I know I know, how can there BE other news when we are talking about Dollhouse???!!!)

I am back from my summer’s end road trip! You wondered where I was, admit it. Well I went East! East to Spokanistan. It will get it’s own blog post on that later today!

Last night when we went out to dinner; Chinese right here on the ‘main drag’ which I love. And my fortune cookie said; “You will meet someone famous.” ZOMG. Interesting. I saw a local news caster the other day at my local QFC… and I did see Bee, who has an imdb page, on Wednesday… but I got this last night. So what does that mean?

As I pounder that, enjoy the Eliza / Dollhouse eye candy. I Am SO looking forward to this!

Watch it. Embrace the Whedon-verse

Been too many days since I blogged, but that tends to happen when my time / life is chock full of things, plus when my hands are covered with paint I stay away from my purdy HP. It’s a thing.

First things first, I feel the need to jump on the band wagon! Though I have been a memeber of the Felicia Day fan club for quite some time (since Vi) she is twelve steps closer to taking over the world. Seriously. She is the Queen of the Internet. We must all bow and create altars. And we are in luck, because we can go down load the ‘Do you want to date my Avatar’video (I suggest grabbing it off Zune, if you are a Zune subscriber – and you should be!!!!) And Season Three of The Guild starts up next week, and I am flipping flapjacks I am so excited. Word! All the blogs I checked today (the ones I normally check each Monday but I was off yesterday!) were full of Felicia goodness. It was nice to see.

‘I’ve had a love that’s no good…’ Oh dear sweet Bee! (currently rocking out to Tour EP that I got last Thursday) Headed over to the High Dive last Friday for the Happy Hour Show. Me and Bee Simonds’ shows go hand in hand, we are all aware of this. And there was a really good crowd for that time of night. (read here early) It was a pretty good show, there were a couple of instances where I scratched my head wondering a few random thoughts. More so I missed see what many of us call the Bee stomp. because it was a ‘laid back’ show she was sitting, so there was no chance for the stomp. I adore the stomp. Good show though, and I am more than thrilled to have her mini CD release, as well as the little release from Canadian Radio, the Cover Band which she is a part of currently. I am thinking there needs to be a road trip soon.

Project Paint the Condo is 95% complete. I WANT it to be 100%, but Mare still wants to do the base boards as well as the doors. So, a little more left. While I do agree, that I need to finish the closet doors in my bedroom, I am THRILLED that we are at least done with the ceilings and such. I am still sore. And I had Monday as my ‘get back to being human’ day. Just goes to show, that apparently when you are out of shape, working your ass off pulls muscles you didn’t even know you had! Huh, How about that?? I will say, with no small amount of pride that the place is looking awesome! We did a damn good job and I love the color. Which is ‘TeaTime’ (Behr, paint and primer) check it out. It’s nummy.

Sunday night TV! OMG. I was crying like a baby bear watching TrueBlood; what gives with that? Maybe I was just super emotional. It’s been known to happen. Trust me on that. And then Mad Men, which… okay for those of you out there who don’t get the show? Don’t watch it, don’t blog about it, just accept that you don’t get it. Let those of us who do get it, enjoy it, think on it, and appreciate it. I get the show. I enjoy the internal conflicts of the time period and the methodology of human spirit trapped behind the perfect creased guise. I get it. And Season Three is going to be awesome! (especially if we get more Joan!!!)

And as I took a four day weekend, I sort of need to get back to work now. I love (not) being behind.

I have this overwhelming urge to get back to my roots. Okay, that may be a little vague and miss leading. It’s not the roots, but the first leaves. AKA, the 80’s and 90’s. Perhaps it is because we lost John Hughes this week, and all the news blurbs are reminding of those movies and songs that were the back drop of my formative years, that I want to walk down those roads again. Listening to the tunes, watching the movies (but I draw the line at the hair cuts, and clothing styles! I will never own aqua blue jeans again, nor will I wear reebok high tops with the Velcro top!).

I finished watching Weeds, Season 2 last night, and that show is pretty funny, though sort of fucked up if you look at it literally, and Silas needs a kick in the head. But OOOH! Zooey! I should have known she was in it, but blanked on it, so it was a nice little surprise. She is such a good actress playing the quirky (crazy) characters, and I believe her in them. (not like Winona Ryder who is ALWAYS Winona Ryder. Every damn movie! WTF) Zooey’s character on WEEDS makes me lament that my crazy-assed ex wasn’t this hot. Which is a bummer. I had my one crazy assed ex (ok there were many contenders too) and she should have been / could have been uber hot. So now I will just hope for the adorable, quirky girl to come into my life. Though I would have to leave the cave for that to happen, so, I will keep you updated on that. *wink*

And speaking of WTF and girls, Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant!! MAN! While babies are awesome most of the time, I think her on again off again bf Scott is a fraking tool. So it is a bummer there. But congrats nonetheless. While I always thought Kourtney was a cutie, Khloe will always be my favorite. Which makes little to no sense to me. I want to like petite girls with blue eyes, but sometimes those Amazon warriors are just damn fine. Frak all the haters, Khole is yummy eye candy – and you tell her I approve! So there.

Time to get to the local home improvement stores to get Painting Supplies. Now if we could only figure out a color (yeah, whatever, details) things would go smoother!! LOL. So painting things, then lots of prep work, before this social misfit heads into Seattle to see her favorite crush musician performing! Come buy me a root beer at the High Dive and watch Bee,  later biotches!

This blog has been oh so serious lately. So with that in mind, let’s mix it up – Girl Style!

Literary Girls! I have this book sitting on my shelf, because I opted to read the ‘Zombie Survival Guide’ and ‘World War Z’ first. With those two down, I shall continue my zombie summer of ‘09 with the Jane Austen trip down the life fantastic. There are some out there who don’t get the thrill of Zombies. I am not one of those people. I adore my zombies. In games and in books. (movies some times, I am a weenie) So once I finish the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, I am planning on having a day of Resident Evil Game play. Woot!

Movie Girls! I saw ‘Julie & Julia’ last weekend. And it was cute, and a good foodie movie. Not the best film I’ve seen, but it was still good. (liked Sunshine Cleaning better – for an Amy Adams theme) I also was bored on Sunday and watched ‘Sex & The City’ movie… and I should say that I never watched the show, but the movie filled me in. And it is certainly straight lady comedy. I got a lot of the humor, (mexi-coma) and the gratuitous man shots I just ignored. It’s sort of sad that Dyke movies are so LAME, so we are left with subtext, or just throwing our hands up and watching ‘main stream’ rom com. Which, has it’s place in the world. For sure.

TV Girls! Hellllooooo Police Women of Broward County. How you doin? Makes me lament not finishing cop school. But hey. Things happen for a reason. And I will check out this show, from time to time, when nothing else is on. Because two of the ladies are damn fine! You know I said it! I watched the season finale of ‘Better of Ted’ last night, and was it just me? When Veronica was talking about loving Mordor, and doing the show, I kept scanning the crowd, looking for Ellen. I think it was just me. Trying to bridge the gap between reality and unreality. Still a funny as heck show. You should check it out!

Music Girls! So I am digging ‘Gossip‘, and excited about going to Bumbershoot this year to check out the ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs’. It should be a blast! In the interim I will be heading out to the High Dive tomorrow night to see Bee Simonds perform (6pm – 8pm) and if you are in the area so should you! It will be an awesome show I have been told. And come on, you know I will be at a Bee show, it’s a for gone conclusion.

Crafty Girls!  Will be me & Mare starting tomorrow. Project Complete Painting the Condo will commence and go on for 4 days. Yay! Yay for painting, Yay for getting it done, and Yay for a four day weekend!!!
